TSCG Compendium

Transdisciplinary System Construction Game

About TSCGMission · three pillars · not a Grand Unifying Framework · the Layer Cake

TSCG's purpose is to provide an introductory-level toolkit to learn, practice and explore systems modeling. Its mission is to help you build scale models of systems: deliberately simplified, working models made for learning by doing. It rests on three pillars.

  1. Map / Territory dualityAfter Korzybski, the map is not the territory. TSCG reads every system with two eyes at once: the Territory eye (what the system does) and the Map eye (how well we can represent it). Held together, they give a depth neither shows alone.
  2. A systemic EsperantoA small shared vocabulary of generic concepts, so that people from different fields can recognise when they describe the same pattern under different names. It translates between disciplines and asks no one to give up their own terms.
  3. A toolkit in the spirit of LEGO TechnicModels are assembled from a small set of reusable, validated pieces. The test is whether the mechanism works, not whether the model looks right.

What TSCG is not. It is not a new Grand Unifying Framework and claims no universal theory. It is judged by its internal coherence and by how useful it is for building model mock-ups.

The Layer Cake. Four levels of ontologies (M3 Structural Grammar, M2 Generic Concepts, M1 Domain Adaptation, M0 Instances) give the kit a coherent, ontology-driven architecture: each layer rests on the one below, and the acceptance gate checks that they fit together.
